This Our Town USA site is dedicated to author Thorton Wilder. Wilder was the author of "Our Town," a play that won the Pulitzer Prize in 1938 as the best play of the year. The play was made into a movie starring a very young William Holden.
Later the play was produced in the early days
of television, about 1950.
In the play there was no scenery, just a
ladder that each actor stood on to deliver lines. A narrator told the
story standing at the side of the stage.
The play revolved around the simple, everyday life of people in the fictional town of Grover's Corner, New Hampshire. The town represented a typical American small town.
Every little town seems to have its own claim to fame. It's the home of a famous person, a soldier, a politician, a movie star, a music star, etc. Or its fame might come from a local festival celebrated each year.
Here at Our Town USA, we hope to salute every town in America, big or small. We have included short histories in Our Town USA. This is an on-going project and this site is always under construction so book mark and come back often.
While you are here our sponsors will be glad you came by to have a look at their pages.
